Meet the Team: Charlie Spicker

What’s up!? I’m Charlie Spicker!

Meet Charlie Spicker: The Vibe Master Behind RESLV’s Creative Vision

Explain what it is that you do at RESLV.

I’m a video editor here at RESLV. However, I also assist in script writing, production, and speaking with the clients to make sure their ideas come to life.

What are some of your favorite professional achievements?

Some of my favorite career achievements are the ADDY awards for work with the “Grind Before You Shine” web series about Olympic Hammer Thrower Annette Echikunwoke and her journey of getting to the Tokyo Olympics. It was one of the first notable projects I remember being a part of with my first job outside of college. In addition to that, I’ve enjoyed the work that I’ve gotten to help with on both Cincinnati Children’s and Miami University projects.

What drives your perspective in your creative endeavors?

Not overthinking ideas and creating a vibe really drives my perspective in my creative endeavors. I grew up on YouTube and I truly believe videos and content aren’t this precious product that others make it out to be. It’s about delivering a message in a way that keeps someone’s attention. If it does that, then cool, I really don’t think beyond that. Everything for me is about a vibe.

What are some of your personal interests outside of RESLV?

I really enjoy hanging out with my wife and dog, golfing with my wife and friends, and running. Running really is one of the only things I do that is mine and no one else can really mess it up. I get up every day at 4:45am, stretch for a little while, and run anywhere from 3-10 miles. It’s a great way to start the day and reflect on anything that is bothering me or think about ideas that I’ve been sitting on.

What is your favorite travel destination?

My favorite place that I’ve ever been to is Amsterdam. I went there for my honeymoon, and it was an awesome city that had amazing museums, unique architecture, and phenomenal food. I also enjoy visiting Chicago whenever I get the chance. My best friend lives there, so every time I go, I feel like I get a real Chicagoan experience.

What is an interesting fact about you?

I don’t think anything I do is interesting, but I do play a variety of instruments (piano, guitar, drums, ukulele, mandolin, and some other random ones) and I’ve ran 4 marathons with my fastest time being 3 hours and 8 minutes.

Is there any additional information you want to include?

This industry can be tough at times, and I think it’s really important to dedicate time to your mental health. I’m open about the fact that I see a therapist every month. I first started seeing one because of anxiety issues, stopped for some time, and picked it back up last year again to tackle anxiety and stress. I think it’s really helpful to have a sounding board with an unbiased professional that can help get you closer to figuring out how to manage things. Again, this industry is tough and it’s hard to be a creative and not have imposter syndrome at times or question if what you’re making is even art.
