Why the Evolution of RESLV Started With Our People

By Scott Thompson, Founder & Owner, RESLV

If you’d asked me a few years ago what RESLV was, I probably would’ve said something simple: a video production company that tells great stories.

That wasn’t wrong, but it wasn’t the whole truth.

Today, RESLV looks very different from what it was when we started. We still produce high-quality video. We still care deeply about craft. But we’ve evolved into something bigger: a digital marketing and storytelling agency built to help organizations navigate complexity and grow their business, not just create content.

And that evolution didn’t start with new services. It started with culture.

Culture Isn’t a Perk. It’s the Strategy.

There’s a misconception that culture is about ping-pong tables (okay, we have one), flexible hours (we have that too), or “fun” Teams channels (this also exists). Those things can be nice, but they’re not the whole picture.

For us, culture is about trust, ownership, and clarity.

It’s about building a team that feels safe enough to challenge ideas, invested enough to care deeply, and supported enough to grow alongside the company. Because when people are engaged and valued, the work gets better, full stop.

Happy employees don’t just produce better work.

  • They make better decisions.
  • They build better relationships with clients.
  • They stay curious when the industry changes.

And this industry never stops changing.

Why We Had to Evolve (Even When Video Was Working)

Video production alone used to be enough. Clients needed assets. Campaigns were simpler. Distribution was an afterthought.

That’s not the world we live in anymore.

Our clients aren’t asking for “a video.”

They’re asking:

  • How do we stand out in a crowded market?
  • How can we tell a consistent story across all platforms?
  • How do we make this content actually work?
  • How do we stretch our budget?
  • How can we better reach our target audience?

To answer those questions, we had to expand our thinking and our capabilities.

We leaned into strategy.

We built storytelling frameworks.

We invested in expertise in distribution, messaging, and long-term content ecosystems.

Not because it was trendy, but because it was necessary.

And because our team was ready for it.

RESLV Strategy

Growth Is Only Sustainable If Your People Grow Too

One of the hardest lessons as a founder is realizing that growth exposes everything: your systems, your communication, your leadership. We didn’t get everything right. We still don’t. But we made a commitment early on: we wouldn’t grow at the expense of our people.

That meant:

  • Giving team members room to specialize and stretch
  • Creating clarity around roles and expectations
  • Encouraging collaboration over silos
  • Finding new talent that has been proven
  • Treating feedback as fuel, not failure

As RESLV evolved, so did our team, and that’s what made the transition possible. You can’t become a strategic agency with a transactional mindset. You can’t guide clients through change if your own culture resists it.

What RESLV Is Today

Today, RESLV is the partner you can trust.

We help organizations clarify their narrative, design content that fits real channels, and build systems that support long-term storytelling, digital marketing campaigns and not only one-off projects.

Video is still at the core.

But strategy, culture, and trust are the foundation.

And that foundation is built by people who believe in the work and each other.

Why This Matters to Our Clients

When you work with RESLV, you’re not just hiring a vendor to “make something.”

You’re partnering with a team that:

  • Understands how marketing has changed
  • Cares about the humans behind the brand
  • Thinks beyond deliverables to outcomes

Our evolution wasn’t about adding services.

It was about building something sustainable for our team and for the clients who trust us with their stories.

And that work is far from done.
